Hurghada beaches: city shore or island day?
Hurghada beaches offer different kinds of day out: a managed beach on the city coast, or an island visit built around a boat trip. Start with how much time you want beside the water. A coastal visit can form the main activity of your day; an island excursion combines the crossing, beach time and whatever water activities belong to the selected programme.
Municipal management does not mean free admission. Resort beaches also have their own access arrangements, so choose a beach with an explicit visitor entry offer rather than treating every stretch in front of a hotel as public. Your accommodation area is useful for planning the land journey, but the location of your room alone does not establish a beach entitlement.

Municipal beaches and dated admission examples
A press report dated 20 June 2026 described three municipally managed family beaches. It listed Family Resort, formerly the Social Club, at 50 EGP per person for non-members, with seating and a sunshade mentioned. Families 1, formerly El Sawaqi, was listed at 50 EGP, with visitor numbers limited. Families 2, formerly Merit, was listed at 20 EGP, with parking, sanitary facilities, food facilities and a promenade described.
These are summer reporting examples, not a November tariff. Use them to understand the distinction between public management and paid entry, rather than as a current quote for your party. Ask the beach entrance for the day's admission and what it covers, including any arrangements for children. A parking area in a beach description does not establish a parking price or put parking inside the admission charge.

An island alternative to the city beach
A boat excursion combines two hours at Orange Bay with snorkelling, equipment and a lunch buffet on board.
What an island beach excursion includes
The featured island excursion lists an eight-hour boat trip and two hours on the island beach, alongside snorkelling equipment, a snorkelling guide and a life jacket. Lunch is a buffet on board, with water, tea, coffee and soft drinks also listed. Hotel pickup and drop-off use an air-conditioned vehicle. The beach stay is one part of the excursion, so this option suits a day organised around both the boat and the shore.
Orange Bay is a beach concession on Giftun; Mahmya is a private beach on Big Giftun. These names describe beach destinations and programmes rather than separate islands for each brand. Our Giftun island guide explains the island setting. For a day focused on water stops instead of time ashore, compare snorkelling excursions.
Keep island admission, protected-area charges and marina charges separate when reading a programme. An inclusion in one excursion applies to that excursion. It should not become a general fee rule for every departure or beach concession.
Beach visits in a protected marine setting
The EEAA island guidance filed in 2022 restricted landing to the tourist-authorised southeastern part of Big Giftun and prohibited open fires. Treat an island visit as a managed stop within the permitted programme, not as an invitation to land at any empty shore. During snorkelling, follow the environmental briefing, avoid standing on or touching coral, keep fins clear and leave shells and coral in place. Take your rubbish back with you.
For a balanced itinerary, keep a city visit as a separate part of the trip rather than attaching a tightly timed appointment to a boat return. The marina guide covers waterfront orientation, while boat tours explains the different ways to spend time offshore.
Beach planning questions
Are municipally managed beaches free?
Municipal beaches can charge admission. The report of 20 June 2026 listed paid entry at the three family beaches described here; those summer figures are not current November prices.
Does an island excursion give a full day on the sand?
The featured programme includes two hours at the island beach within an eight-hour boat trip. The rest of the programme includes time on the boat and snorkelling activities.
What matters when snorkelling near a beach?
Follow the briefing, stay off coral and keep fins away from the reef. Leave shells and coral where they are, and bring rubbish back to shore for disposal.
